Yep. I got there and the line was about 100 people packing PC's. It looked hopeless, so. . . I snuck in. ;-)

First impressions: Cyber-punk city.

Once inside we first headed to the TDFX area and saw four systems playing Half-Life at 1024x768. Two 3000's and two 2000's. I have been waiting for V3 to put into my new Celeron box. I had been debating between the 2K and 3K. (I'm a cheap SOB:) The TNT2 news made me take pause about whether I might consider it. After seeing the V3 I don't need to see the TNT2. I am currently the owner of a Rendition V2100 card. It was a nice card with excellent image, but, like others have already said, I'm tired of missing out. I want to run everything. I'm tired of reading about cool stuff I can't use. I'm tired of not having a Voodoo card. And the V3 is one fantastic Voodoo card.

So, on with the story:

The image quality on the V3 was fabulous. Anyone who finds it not good enough is pretty picky. It was blazingly fast. I'm sold.

We then went over to DIMD's area. They shared a booth with Babbages. Got an excellent Falcon4 shirt and a Gameday99 shirt. (Someone had lifted all 300 TDFX shirts right before we got there. :-( )

DIMD didn't have a TNT2, but were showing a S4 (Stealth III). The texture demo's were impressive, but really only when standing right up against a wall. Not too bright an idea during DM. :) I noticed pauses as the guy moved around the levels (Unreal Tournament). A couple of hangs, don't know if it was the card or the game.

S4 won't be any more of an impact than S3 was, especially against Rage128, TNT2, and V3.

I was hoping to get a good feel for the distribution of cards among the gamers. (i.e. the predominant card) Due to the slow admittance process there weren't enough people inside to do any good, but I saw a lot of V2's and not much else.

The people running the show were doing an excellent job. They were very organized. The only real problem was it was taking too long for them to get the attendees inside. They definitely need to revamp that process.
