This message is in response to a private email from Pete Summers. This is not a response to Trader14U--his was just the last message on the thread. Anyone know how to post a new message for ALL, let me know! Anyway, here is Pete's email, with a response from Dan Lunt. I think this is highly significant because it ensures the currency of the Spyhop indexes and reduces the amount of maintenance required to ensure the search engine database stays current. I am sure it has favorable performance results as well. Overall, an example of a well-engineered product... John, Below is an e-mail I received from Dan Lunt. The question I posed to Dan came from a poster on the Sleu thread. I forget the person's name or pseudonym they use, but they purport to have analytical knowledge regarding search engines. I basically copied the posters contention as to why they felt Spyhop would not be a great search engine, and e-mailed the below to Dan. This is something you may be aware of. If it's significant enough, please share it with others...if you like. All the best, Pete ************ Dan, > > Would you please answer the below at your earliest convenience. > > Will individual web site owners with software that WordCruncher > provides, have to edit the index > and submit it to the main search engine for hosting and inclusion in the > directory??If this is the case > when! the individual web site is modified, will a new index have to be > created and submitted to SpyHop??? > > I know you are very busy, but I would appreciate your response. > > Thanks, > Dan Lunt's response No. Our harvestor is list directed. Once a site has been added to the list with the appropriate administrative info (mostly derived automatically), we will check the site for changes on a regular schedule and reindex as necessary. The only thing a web site will have to do is install an HTML string that brings up the search dialog. Best wishes, Dan Lunt
