Audio/video drives can be done by anyone. The only thing special is that the error correction or retries are typically turned off for video applications. If the disk drive burps an error, the video decoder has ECC to correct it. If the drive tries to fix the error, the data stream from the drive stops momentarily and you see a blank screen. Quantum may advertise it alot, but all of the drive suppliers sell to the video guys. Nothing great there.
