The Globe and Mail reports in its Tuesday, March 23, edition that Com Dev
International has taken a pass on investing in the Skybridge LP satellite
consortium. The Globe's Mark Evans writes that Val O'Donovan, Com Dev's
chairman and chief executive officer, however, helped pick up the slack by
making a $15.5-million investment in Skybridge through a private holding
company, Technology Horizons. Mr. O'Donovan is Technology Horizon's largest
investor with a 30 per cent stake and he also owns 18.7 per cent of Com Dev.
Com Dev says Technology Horizons bought the stake after it was unable to
find financing at attractive terms. Skybridge, led by France's Alcatel,
plans to build and launch a system of 80 small satellites that can handle
more information than conventional satellites. Technology Horizons can sell
its interest in Skybridge to Com Dev at any time over the next four years,
reports the Globe.
