Muke, The predominant concern that seems to be pervading the conspiracy channels lately is that the US will declare martial law due to Y2K disruptions. I think that is the only true reason it is being discussed out here and I put my answers into that context. But I agree. No American would long tolerate a sustained state of martial law, especially the soldiers who would be required to enforce it. Face it, if these kids had wanted to be cops, they would have joined the police force, not the military...:0) However, I do believe there is a certain level of concern regarding terrorist cells operating within the US. Being the top dog in the world, we're quite the target for those who fear our becoming so strong that we achieve a permanent advantage over our rivals. There certainly is a fear of Cyberattack against our infrastruture and financial systems. NSA "Red Cell" operations conducted against primary infrastructure targets in the US revealed some serious security vulnerabilities (Operation: "Eligible Retriever" Summer, 1997). I do not underestimate the nature of the threat against the US, but I believe not only in appropriate defense, but offense so that those who dare attack us know we will take them with us. MAD has worked for 50 years or so... and it remains the ultimate defense against aggressive nations. But terrorist cells operating will little overt linkage to a particular nation pose a particular problem. If biologically attacked by terrorists, we would have difficulty finding out which nation supported their activities. And even a more difficult time justifying an all-out retaliation. Tough being the top dog, isn't it?? Btw, sounds like you have led an interesting life. Never heard about the Naval Attache who was killed by the bomb there. But I participated in helping to train some of them years ago. Regards, Ron
