There have been academic studies done on this. Apparently the human mind can only absorb so much information, because as you give an "expert" more information about a problem,a point is rapidly reached where the resulting forecast doesn't become more accurate. However the confidence in the forecast does increase, so that means the extra information actually is a handicap, because it gives a sense of false confidence. The problem therefore may be one of excess information rather than excess knowledge. Most of us probably only have one or two great ideas a year, so I try to put most of my money in them and try (not always successfully) to avoid the urge to "do something". The ultimate knowledge in the stock market is understanding mass human behavior, not something that can be learned at school.
