>>Disney/Amazon merger?

That's a bad joke. Just because a writer speculates doesn't give it any probability.

>> "A company like Disney could afford to spend $20 billion for Amazon," <<
A company like AOL is the better bet. Why? It's a keiretsu"Thing".
Kleiner will make this happen. It's in the bag. I just don't when or how much Case will pay Bezos. Hell they might just call it a merger.
On this, put me down on the record.

Like Lycos, Amazon.com is unlikely to get acquired for the current value of the stock. These stocks are inflated based on five or ten year earnings - a multi-billion $ powerhouse like Disney can throw $1 billion at making their Internet business a leader - give away merchant capabilities, stuff like that. Why pay such a huge amount for Amazon? As the Internet matures and high speed access becomes more prevalent, the CONTENT that Disney owns will be able to be pushed out on the Internet - a very valuable commodity that Amazon can't even start to duplicate. Building a large array of Internet servers and giving away $5 in sales for $4 in real money could make Disney, or NBC or other media company felt strongly.

The only way Disney will buy Amazon.com, IMO, is for 50c (or less) on the dollar in stock valuation.

The day that Michael Eisner, one of the five smartest businessmen in America, takes $20B from one of the best companies in America to
"invest" in the likes of AMZN... somebody let me know so I can go out and hang myself. Thanks.
