There has been much talk about the TV onthe Web relationship with AXC but I found this on the broadcast.net "webcasting" message boards. Seems Drew Cummings is a heavyweight player in the market place and AENTV is a very active site with content! Although this article was dated Dec 1996, how much more had they accomplished by the time AXC made an investment. Hmmm, I wonder..Your opinions?

From broadcast.net public message board:

Hello Group:

I would not normally post a press release to a users group, but I thought this might be of interest to some, and spark discussions and debates to others. I would like any and all input on the use of
streaming video on our site, and am willing to answer as many questions the group may have. I have studied (at length) probably every streaming video solution in the marketplace, and have also been
approached by nearly all of the streaming software developers about our content. As I have told all of them, we are committed and believe that the Internet will become the primary delivery and distribution method for digital video and interactive entertainment programming in the coming years. We want to assist any and all developers with their quest, and will share content for technology.

In addition to programming AEN and producing original content for the network, we are also licensing content, encoding and hosting content , and transparently streaming video to other sites such as Sportsline. I invite you to visit our site and see how streaming video, when combined with banner advertising (CASIO banner on our main front page)can also effectively enhance advertising on the Internet. I welcome all comments as well.

So, let the kudos and complaints begin! If this group is truly interested in discussing, debating, learning, and developing broadcasting, multicasting, "Live" streaming, on-demand streaming, and
related technology and business models, let's here from you!

Regards,
Drew Cummings

PRESS RELEASE
Veteran television producer Drew Cummings (pictured third from the left),President of the Alternative Entertainment Network announced today that it has struck a multi-year deal with Budd Friedman, legendary founder of the world famous Improv Comedy Clubs, to launch the Improv Comedy Channel on Cumming's network, which already contains 11 channels of programming and more entertainment video content than any web site in the world. Only six months old, AEN serves more than 3 million visitors per month.

The new Improv comedy channel (one of eleven channels on the network) will feature "live" nightly streaming video and audio stand-up comedy performances from the Hollywood Improv Club, and feature some of today's top comedians.

Says Cummings, " we are pleased to have the Improv and Budd Friedman as our partner on the Network. Our goal to make the Improv Comedy Channel the primary destination on the Internet for comedy entertainment and information".

Currently, AEN's Comedy Channel features information on the comedy industry, in addition to stand-up comedy performances of over 1,000 celebrities from Cummings' vast video library. The channel will be renamed in January 1997, and begin nightly (Mon-Fri) "Live" broadcasting thereafter using VDOLive on-demand streaming and VDO Net's new VDOLive broadcasting technology.

Cummings and Friedman have already begun producing five second on-air promo's which will run on the Improv Channel and throughout the AEN Network with such comedians as Jay Leno, Drew Carey, Paul Rodriguez, Fritz Coleman, Damon Wayans, and Anthony Clark.

Internet connectivity and technical services for AEN are being provided by Network Intensive. "Network Intensive was selected as our technology partner because of their reputation and commitment to deliver quality services" said Cummings.
