Curtis Frazier <<For example, a doctor may get a set of golf clubs if they write at least 50 prescriptions for their new medication.>>

Curt: Since 1991,the AMA set up guidelines concerning gift-giving from pharmaceutical companies to physicians. Non-medical gifts and payment for physician trips are a clear violation of these guidelines.

No one in thirty years of practice has ever offered me money or a gift for writing prescriptions for their product. If your prescription was for a drug that was not generic it could be new state of the art or in some (most) states the pharmacist must offer a generic product. Many times we will write the Rx with the trade name knowing the pharmacist will offer the generic (in FL). There is still a lot of arguing about what is "bioequivalent". "Similar" drugs are not the same as generic.
