You comment correctly that This company is not a mature one nor is the e-commerce business.
Absolutely true and you make a very important point. My point was that there is no evidence (yet) of revenue growth for AOL beyond linear--add a subscriber, add e-commerce and advertising revenue proportionately. This seems to me an issue worth paying attention to quarter by quarter. But, you're right, looking at the Internet now and trying to predict the shape and direction of its future even a few years forward is like looking at the first flickering images of a moviola and trying to predict today's movie business. All net companies are still groping to define themselves and redefine themselves. AOL, for example, has already redefined itself at least twice. In ten years--even five--I doubt any Internet company will look much like it does today. And maybe they'll find a way to grow high-margin, non-subscriber revenue faster than low-margin subscriber fees.
