Skeets, I don't think oil producing countries will have any serious Y2K problems. They tend to not be computerized that heavily. I think the Y2K problems will be concentrated in Europe, tech Asia, and the US. I haven't got a source for S&P earnings.

As far as IDC goes, I just read their predictions and laugh most of the time and don't keep a record. Earlie may. I also confuse their numbers with Dataquest in my mind as neither is any good. I know they predicted 17% revenue growth for pcs last year and it came in negative. The year before, I seem to remember 19% and it came in at +6%. Beyond that, I just remember the words "lousy prediction," and I was paying more attention to SIA's long history of lousy predictions for chips.

SB, it seems I read last week that the Russian pipelines were not compliant, and that many sections of the control system were only accessible by helicoptor. It sounded like a real challenge to fix. Tim

You can find some useful information regarding possible Y2K problems in the Oils at the following link.

1. do you think any oil producing countries will have y2k related infrastructure problems and, if so, what do you think is the best way to play the collapse in oil supply?

More good ideas here...
