What I wonder is how important is the source of the vegetable oil. Waste from cooking with grease (oops, I mean deep fat) can be valuable, but even from a food factory, the source is limited. Oil from food crops such as soybeans and canola can be used, but the crops and crop land are valuable.

Suppose other sources of plant oil can be used. What I am thinking of is growing plants specifically for their oil content using real estate that is essentially worthless except for its scenic beauty. An example is the manzanita and chapparal that grows on mountain slopes in western states. Those shrubs are loaded with oil. That oil content is the reason you see the spectacular fires on TV of brush land burning every summer. The plants are tough and indestructible except for the periodic fires.

Another silly thought from someone who thinks of seas and oceans as tools in the fight against global warming.
