You can turn the secondary into the primary via the cable and you might well have to boot off drive A with an "emergency boot disk" that is too late to prepare if you don't already have one.

Or, if you have another spare hard drive laying around, you could hook it up and see if the problem is somewhere else.

As I said, I'm just a patcher, and I have spare parts laying around. The situation that you have now has happened to me before and that's what I did.
