I ought to make it clear that I don't think that CPQ is a bad business ready fall off the cliff. As the largest PC maker in the world and the only business that can challenge IBM, CPQ has a lot to build on. If CPQ can find its way back to strong profits we have a killer business because there are billions in sales.

My point is that it seems that time is up for 5fer.

I just think that we do not have the quality of leadership that we need.

The only really good CEOs that you hear a lot about are Armstrong (AT&T) and IBM. Both speak well in public. Both seem to have a clear vision of what is happening and the ability to carry it out.

5fer is the opposite. When he speaks everyone goes to sleep.

You are what you sound like.

5fer sounds like a middle management project man giving his report on the project he was assigned of managing worldwide box making and traffic flow in the channels. He would probably be good at that job but that is not the job of a CEO.

Nobody seems to feel they have a clear image of where the CPQ ship is going. IBM is successfully branding itself as the e-commerce solution for small and large businesses. What has 5fer branded CPQ as? The letter Q? What's that?

Who-What-When-Why.
Who are we?
What are we going to do?
When are we going to do it?
Why are we going to do it?

5fer has not answered the first of these and he's had plenty of time.

Dog, are you there? You have been around this a lot. I'd like to hear your assessment of 5fer and whether or not you feel a change at the top is due.

robbie,

Your post talks about "Officers selling hundreds of thousands of share at or about yearly highs" ....

Well, as shareholder (fairly large too) I take advantage (YUK) of the automatic dividend reinvestment plan and the last time the dividend was given my $$ were reinvested in CPQ stock @ 49 5/8 ... what a pisser
