<<I get reminded every year on her birthday.>>

Ah, DScottD, isn't it strange how women have memories like elephants? I can still remember exactly why my feelings were hurt by my husband (then boyfriend) in 1980. However, sometimes really sweet traditions and memories are the result of incidents early in relationships. The first Valentine's Day we were together, my sweetie didn't totally understand the immediacy of the American tradition, being an Irish country boy, and waited too late in the day to buy me flowers. So the only ones left anywhere were BLUE CARNATIONS!! Not very pink/red/romantic, but he bought them anyway, not having any other options, and to me whenever I see them, which is not very often, they remind me of the immediacy/poignancy of the beginning of my long love relationship with this man.
