Michelle, in case you forgot, the first commandment of God was given long before the Roman empire. Like a real long time before: several centuries.

there is a fascinating series on the learning channel (TLC) that discusses the emergence of the cult of christianity as a protest against the Roman empire. Specifically, the "thou shalt have no other god before me" part, is questioned as existing purely to thwart the Romans and their insistence that the elite were gods.

The Learning Channel should stick to Disney productions, or else rename themselves The Guessing Channel. And certainly they have no business questioning the validity of religions.

I'm sorry I missed that. I spent the week in Orlando Fla. where the only gods I saw were being fought by Zena and Hercules. There is an interesting book named The Passover Plot which discusses how the original messianic movement of Jesus was changed to one of resurection after his death. The original plot failed but was resurrected as an anti-hellenic movement and later anti-roman.
