I suspect life vests and general safety technology thingies are older than you&I, but because there is such inertia among the consumer they came in slowly. With the assistance of those young reckless iconoclasts. Teenage boys.

The new life vests are wonderful, even if they do insist on calling them Personal Flotation Devices, which sounds like it ought to be something you'd order from a Victoria's Secret catalog. They're so comfortable that people actually wear them, instead of drowning while wishing they had.
