Rude, funny my LTE LITE 4/25E died a while back. I went to a Compaq service outfit that said it wasn't even worth figuring out what was wrong with it. Then, this weekend I went to a Compaq blowout sale on discontinued stuff with my son who wanted a cheap notebook. We got talking to a techie who said, "Oh, have you checked your clock battery on your 25E? That's usually what's wrong." So we picked up a battery and will put it in tomorrow.

Maybe you knew about this but I didn't. Just in case yours dies unexpectedly. Instead of my son spending $450 (Cdn) on a LTE ELITE he paid the $10 for the battery. He figures he can live with the fewer features and $440 in his pocket.

Cheers and thanks for all the positive stuff you post here. I'm a believer that CPQ is a helluva good company doing everything it can to be the best. The market will be the last to know and we'll all be rich (again) when that happens.

Stuart.

Thanks Rudedog - but I think this laptop will be more innovative than the CPQ machine you mention. CPQ and most other manufacturers seem to use the 'slice' approach where you attach a thin notebook to the 'slice' for full multimedia capability. I think this IBM machine will actually be self contained, and you simply slip out a piece of it. Innovative in the same way that the IBM 'butterfly' was. In either case, the real point is that I see innovation in laptops coming from IBM in the US, and Sony/Toshiba in Japan. Sony especially seems to be coming on strong in this area, they have established a design theme with their VAIO machines. Their new PDA sized WIN98 machine with built in camera looks quite intriguing, along with the 'slimtop' LCD based desktop. Maybe this stuff is not worth doing if you are building low cost high volume stuff, but I would think some nicely designed machines with unusual features could help put CPQ on the map here and differentiate them from others.

Regards,
John

rudedog,

After attending a cousin's wedding in this northern country with LOTS of snow ....

I'm reviewing our threads posts and saw this one (yours) on laptops ... it's unfortunate and bewildering to me that CPQ can't seem to get it .... IBM laptops seem superb and CPQ can't follow this model ... even when the HIGHNOTE, a highly respected and excellent laptop-model is thrown in CPQ's lap it screws it up or ignores it ... NIH or complete laptop-stupidity I guess.

Can you whom I respect (or anyone else) explain to me CPQ's ignorance in THIS arena ????????

Michael
