<<<ECI Telecom in Talks to Purchase One of Three U.S. Companies

Petah Tikva, Israel, March 15 (Bloomberg) -- ECI Telecom Ltd., Israel's largest telecommunications equipment company, is in talks to purchase one of three U.S. companies: Advanced Fibre Communication Inc., Pairgain Technologies Inc., or ADTRAN Inc., Hebrew newspaper Ha'aretz reported, without citing sources. The companies and ECI make similar products for boosting the capacity of phone networks, Ha'aretz said. The purchase will probably cost ECI between $600 million to $700 million, Ha'aretz said.

Doron Inbar, ECI's chief financial officer, said a report in Ma'ariv last week that the company was in talks to buy Advanced Fibre was ''a figment of (the reporter's) imagination.'' (Ha'aretz, 3/15, pg. 1 business section; www.haaretz.co.il)
