CyberCash Chief Hails Microsoft
E-Commerce Plans as Boost for
Internet

CyberCash Anticipates Continued Partnership
with Microsoft in Electronic Commerce

RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1999-- Bill Melton, founder and chief executive
officer, CyberCash, Inc. (Nasdaq:CYCH - news), said today that Microsoft's intentions to actively
participate in the rapidly growing electronic commerce market are likely to increase the speed at which
e-commerce develops. In a press release following Microsoft's announcement today in San Francisco,
Melton said that Microsoft, combined with the efforts of CyberCash and its e-commerce partners, will
change the face of e-commerce by making it easier for people everywhere to buy and sell goods and
services on the Internet.

''The impact of Microsoft's entry into the electronic commerce market could be dramatic,'' Melton
said. ''Just as Apple revolutionized the desk-top publishing business, Microsoft could help redefine the
look of electronic commerce. CyberCash is very proud to be a partner with Microsoft already on a
number of important e-commerce products.''

As part of today's announcement, Microsoft named CyberCash as one of its Microsoft Commerce
Business Applications Partners.

In January, Microsoft unveiled its Complete Commerce initiative, a packaged electronic commerce
solution for medium to large-sized enterprise businesses looking to commerce-enable their web sites
through hosting service providers. As part of that solution, CyberCash makes it possible for merchants
to accept real-time payments through the CyberCash CashRegister 3 service.

Also in January, CyberCash released an enhanced version of its payment component software for
Microsoft's Site Server, Commerce Edition. The upgraded software for Site Server Commerce
provides enhanced security for processing payments over the Internet and makes it significantly easier
for developers to integrate settlement transactions into back-end systems.

CyberCash was one of the first Internet payment services to support Site Server. The Site Server,
Commerce Edition product was Microsoft's premier entry into the web-based commerce market and is
one of the easiest to implement solutions today for creating a comprehensive storefront on the Internet.

''We look forward to continuing to work with Microsoft on projects that will enhance the future of
electronic commerce,'' Melton said.

Microsoft chairman and chief executive officer, Bill Gates, and Melton will be among several industry
luminaries presenting keynote addresses at the upcoming Comdex/Spring '99 and Windows World '99
exhibition next month in Chicago.

CyberCash is the world's leading provider of secure electronic commerce payment technologies and
services spanning the retail point of sale through the Internet. CyberCash and the CyberCash logo are
trademarks, service marks, registered trademarks or registered service marks of CyberCash, Inc.
