___Nortel-Bay Tandem Set To Unveil Router___
The marriage of Northern Telecom, now called Nortel Networks
Corp., and Bay Networks Inc. is about to bear fruit that
combines the technology of the two networking companies.

The Accelar 8000 switch router, to be unveiled this week at
the CeBit conference in Hanover, Germany, is an edge and
core device developed by the Bay Networks Business Product
Group. It incorporates a Nortel-inspired switch fabric that
increases reliability, reducing failover to 3 seconds or
less. The company hopes the increased reliability will help
win the trust of users thinking about combining their voice
and data network infrastructures.

Says Mike McConnell, director of enterprise management and
LAN programs at Infonetics Research Inc., "For many
companies these days, if packets are dropped, the whole cost
advantage of converged voice and data networks goes out the
door." --Brian Riggs
