Lynn, you are soooo right. Many times there is a settlement and the litigants do not get a penny - just the lawyers.
Some companies will have 13 different law firms all signing up people for a class action suit. Obvious result is capital removed from the investors' company due to costs involved in fighting or settling.

Dear Lynn: Its even worse than you imagin. I retired from a prominent position (Partner) in one of the Worlds largest CPA firms at age 47 cause I coulnt stand it anymore. These guys will sue any DEEP POCKET regardless of ANYTHING. And to make matters worse they have people out there who will buy a few shares in a volatile company to WAIT for something to happen then they file the suit. Because of the incredible cost involved in defending the defendants generally settle out of court with these buzzards and they and ONLY they get money. The lead plantiff (their PLANT so to speak) gets a KICKBACK under the table, illegal but cant be proven.
If the case really ever does go to trial, which is rare and only if there truly is a bonafide fraud then the attorneys STILL get millions and the stockholders get PENNIES. I defy any class action litagation attorney on this board to say it isnt so. JDN
