The BRK portfolio was acquired at a total cost of a little over $7 billion, and is now valued at over $37 billion. If that's being naked, I'll strip.

In fairness to Warren, he has never claimed to be able to spot and exploit every market swing. He's aiming to build long-term value, and that's what he's done; I don't think any of the shareholders are complaining.

The issue here is not whether the money he put into Gillette would have been better of in Yahoo. If accountants and executives are increasingly resorting to creative accounting to justify their valuations - and Buffett is far from the only one who is talking about this - it is another good indication that the tech bubble may have run its course.
