The IRS allows a taxpayer to pay reasonable, ordinary and necessary annual maintenance fees for each of your IRA accounts (say $30 or $75 per account) from a personal checkbook, and as such the IRA itself does not have that money taken away.

In addition these fees when paid by you personally are deductible on Sch A, line 22.
