John, >>>There has been some talk on the Dell thread that one of the advantage of the new
IBM-Dell agreement (for Dell) is that Dell will no longer have to pay a 1%
royalty payment (that Dell apparently pays to IBM on EACH box that they
sell!)...
Any ideas on this?<<<

I have no idea. Is this royalty for the "privilege" of using the original "IBM PC" design? Weird, but doesn't surprise me, what with IBM and their New York patent lawyers. They're probably better than the Yankees at pummeling the opposition. Good luck to the country mouse (Dell) from Round Rock.
