So, have you joined the predict-Dell's-five-year-EPS-growth contest yet? Still open, still very few takers on the Dell thread. My view is negative only by contrast with expectations: see #reply-8324963 or #reply-8325259 for some recent comments on same.

Jim, Dell can state all the objectives they want. Without demand, they don't get there from here. And there is no corporate pc demand. Small businesses sure aren't going to buy overpriced Dell boxes with the tough eps year coming up.

I certainly could be wrong, but my #1 indicator, these carnival side show barkers who rope in suckers on the stock on any positive news, no matter how trivial, have been mighty silent this quarter. In the past, by now, they would have been touting like crazy to boost the stock for their insider sales. But not this time. Methinks they are in deep kimshee.

Jim Kelly:

I've worked long and hard to develop a couple of very amateurish methods for trying to track Dell. (Can't do it in my normal fashion, as there is no way to check out their ongoing sales as we do for other PC situations.) I cannot yet say if these methods are bulletproof, but they seemed to work rather well last quarter, where our "in print" forecast proved deadly accurate. I have to say that on the basis of these methods, we have a very different perspective on Dell than you do. Our view is that Dell is experiencing the slowdown almost as much as its brethren. If this proves accurate, Dell's stock price will be thumped, as the whole darned industry is getting dusted.

Best, Earlie
