Besides, who will read the ads when they have important business to conduct. It's not like a hypertext link, where the user can check the product or services out in an instant.

I have wondered the same thing.

Phone numbers are pretty cheap. I can get a pager number out here in LA for $7 a month. No advertising. Make it for free, but include advertising.... not a big leap... for $7 a set of eyballs.... cheap.

Remember, they are giving away thousands of computers for free if you watch all their commercials.
