Mccowaner,

Excellent info...

Did you see that they estimate there will be 40 million PCs with CD-ROMs by 1998, compared to 18 million in 1996 and 3 million in 1994. That's an average year-over-year growth of over 190%. If I tried to estimate 1999's numbers based on that, that would be 76 million PCs. These are consumer PCs, not business!

Also, did you notice the information about Interactive TV?

"British Telecommunications was also very positive about the results of its interactive TV trial in the east of England during 1996. The trial involved 5,500 users in more than 2,000 homes and offered films and television programming on demand, childrens' TV, music videos, a community service, home shopping and banking, computer games and interactive advertising. The test's interim results suggested that consumers were using the service for an average of ten hours per week. [my italics] Three quarters of homes ordered two to three video titles per month, and the option of previewing soap operas and other television programming before national broadcast proved popular."

More interesting was the Table 3.11 Interactive Television Markets which, among the predictions, included:
• General Services (Home shopping & Video-on-demand) to have a high number of viewers at a lost cost to viewers.

The analysis suggested that "the largest revenues are likely to come from VOD and home shopping".

This is very encouraging. Good work Mccowaner!
