Solaris IS "OPEN," especially when compared with Windows, which doesn't seem to have much trouble as a result of being "CLOSED."

BTW, SPARC is also "OPEN."

JMHO.

Claude: I believe you need to talk about software and hardware OPENNESS by degrees. On an OPENNESS scale of 1-10 SUNW, 1 being low and Linux being a 10, SUNW has to be ranked as one of the highest company's in existence, say 7-8, compared to MSFT's -2. For someone talking about the merits of MSFT it is blatantly hypocritical for that person to even discuss the issue of openness, especially about the lack of such by one of the leading industry proponent's of openness, SUNW.
