Well I believe that the reason X consumes so much bandwidth is that it allows users of computers to do things they could not do otherwise. Anyway several issues back in the Linux Journal there was an article of an X ... hmmm, I'll call it a layer that decreased needed X bandwidth by understanding the protocol and caching. The purpose of the program was to improve X performance with modems. Sounds like a possible product for bandwidth hungry IT folks.
