Linux is getting a lot of attention. The latest issue of PC Magazine gives it a lot of coverage. I've seen a full page ad, I think for Barnes & Noble, where all the featured books, the page in full color, were texts on Linux OS.

And, from some of the articles one can peruse on the web, it seems quite tempting for its speed and dependability.

One stumbling block though, is folks like me, who have Windows at work, and want to have a conflict free relationship between the home and office pc.

Tom,

I like the borg humor. The OS's each have their merits. I don't think there is any doubt of the stability and robustness of unix os's. I have used one every day for the last 8 years. Unix is far from perfect. Lots of old baggage that should have been fixed 20 years ago but wern't. linux addresses some of this but not all. People should investigate what it can do. BTW: Veritas RAID Filesystem crashed the Kernal on a big 4 CPU Solaris server today. the cause of the bug, the filesystem filled to 100%. I'm pretty disapointed with the veritas people at this point.
