Company Press Release

TimesTen to Develop In-Memory Database for Intel's Future Merced Processor

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 1999--TimesTen Performance Software today announced that it has entered an agreement with Intel for the development of an optimized version of the TimesTen(TM) in-memory database for Intel's future IA-64 product family, beginning with Merced.

Under the agreement, TimesTen will begin performance tuning for Windows NT on Intel's IA-32 product family, including the Pentium(TM) III Xeon® processor. TimesTen will then create and optimize a version of TimesTen 3.0 for Intel's future Merced processor, which will be available in parallel with Merced production.

''TimesTen is a leader in the newly emerging in-memory database market,'' said Mike Pope, Director of Intel Software Enabling Programs. ''TimesTen's in-memory database technology coupled with the computing power of the Merced platform will enable a new class of high-performance applications ideally suited for e-commerce and network computing.''

''We are very excited to be working closely with Intel to optimize and performance-tune TimesTen for the future Merced processor,'' said James R. Groff, CEO of TimesTen Performance Software. ''We believe the unique features of the IA-64 architecture, such as its support for explicit parallel operation, are an excellent match for in-memory database technology.''
