(Alexandria, VA) – Continuing the effort to assist broadcasters meet their broadcast requirements, THOMCAST Communications, Inc., through its COMARK Division CDS Unit, introduces "Pearl". "Pearl" is an ATSC compliant PSIP (Program System Information Protocol) system manager capable of creating and editing PSIP tables in the Electronic Program Guide.
Most importantly to broadcasters, Pearl meets the requirements of the ATSC A/65 standard, and is a stand-alone system which can be implemented in a variety of configurations, independent of the encoder manufacturer. The inherent architecture of the Pearl system allows for integration with traffic and automation systems. Pearl is a Windows NT based program designed with the latest information protocol technology. Though only recently introduced, the system has already been sold to several prominent broadcasting companies, including LIN Broadcasting and WFMZ (Allentown, PA).
Mark Richer, Vice President and General Manager of the CDS Unit, is enthusiastic about the new product offering. "Pearl is a key element of a digital broadcasting system, and the first offering in a new line of innovative ATSC-MPEG-2 transport stream products from THOMCAST. We've built upon our expertise in ATSC and MPEG-2 standards", says Richer.
The first generation Pearl system joins the large family of proven products from THOMCAST, which has extensive knowledge of MPEG transport processing. THOMCAST has successfully marketed a DVB version of the Pearl system in Europe.
The THOMCAST Communications, Inc., COMARK Division, is an Emmy award winner and a leading supplier of high power UHF and VHF television transmitters for both analog and digital technologies. COMARK provides broadcasters with Complete Digital Solutions through its CDS Unit, which specializes in consulting, project management, systems design and integration, and DTV products.
On January 1, 1999, COMARK Communications, Inc., and COMWAVE merged to form THOMCAST Communications, Inc. Both COMARK and COMWAVE have been operating as separate companies owned by THOMCAST for several years. THOMCAST is the largest terrestrial broadcasting product and service organization in the world.
