'Who neglects this problem, will not be competitive in 2000' says Mr. Henkel, President of the union of employers ('Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Industrie').... Mr. Schroeder: still on the knowledge level of his predecessor....' ' Hierzulande scheint das Jahr-2000-Computer-Problem noch immer eine Nebensache zu sein. „Wer das Problem vernachlässigt, startet nicht wettbewerbsfähig ins Jahr 2000. Eine verpaßte Umstellung trifft die Unternehmen ins Herz“, warnte Ende November Hans-Olaf Henkel, Präsident des Bundesverbandes der Deutschen Industrie. Doch die offiziellen Stellen wiegeln ab. Aus dem Saarland ist zu hören, man habe „das Jahr-2000-Thema abgehakt“. Wer beim Bundespresseamt nachfragt, was denn Bundeskanzler Gerhard Schröder in Sachen Millennium Bug unternehme, kann das Grinsen am anderen Ende der Telefonleitung förmlich hören. Der sei auf dem Wissensstand seines Vorgängers. Anfang März will die Bundesregierung einen umfassenden Bericht zum Jahr-2000-Problem und zum Stand ihrer Vorbereitungen veröffentlichen.
