Any capital gains generated on these infrequent sales of stocks would be minimal. Imagine these capital gains, if any, being spread out over the million of units. The only other time they would need to sell would be when the composition of the 100 stocks changes.

By the way, interesting that it appears 6 stocks make up about 40% of this index: MSFT, ORCL, DELL, MCI Worldcom, INTEL and Cisco.
