Those SCH CD's with spx returns aren't new. I've seen them at banks even 8 years ago or so. I'm sure you are right that the downside is that there is zippo interest. FDIC insures principal. They park the money and achieve returns sufficient enough to buy index calls. In a way sort of like MB's 90/10 except probably closer to 95/5.
