Put aside the nirvana of VoIP, because service providers today are more likely to use ATM as the single protocol for both voice and data. That's where TeleHub comes in. The Gurnee, Ill., start-up has released PathMinder, software for controlling and managing voice calls over ATM networks while providing the service quality and reliability that customers have come to expect from the PSTN. PathMinder collects information from the SS7 and ATM networks to set up calls and send provisioning and connection commands to various network elements across the ATM network.
The client-server software is based on TeleHub's Virtual Access Services Platform (VASP), a control and management architecture for delivering voice and data services over public or private ATM networks. VASP, itself, was developed and tested with TeleHub's nationwide ATM network. Siemens Information and Communications Networks seems to think PathMinder will work: The company has signed a three-year contract for PathMinder to enhance its MainStreetXpress ATM switches.
