Burce, Yes, generally a trader who changes his accounting to the MTM method AFTER ELECTING TO DO SO needs to file form 3115 for those elections first made after Wednesday March 17th. The form is 8 pages, the instructions are 4 additional pages, and the "rules" that go along with the instructions are 69 pages long (Rev Proc 98-60).

BUT if you MOVE FAST ENOUGH "just a written request" will suffice. GET IT OFF TO THEM IN THE MAIL PRONTO! - by the 17th, certified mail, return receipt requested!

File an amended return within 3 months to complete or correct anything missed, because you were rushed.

Good luck!
