The percentage of chips that experience outright failures is "so small as to be statistically insignificant," he said.<<<

>>One discovery that emerged from the survey is that embedded chips do not pose a significant problem for the oil and gas industries, said Ron Quiggins , director, Year 2000 Program, Shell Services Corporation and chairman of the American Petroleum Institute Year 2000 Task Force. CHEEKY KID: Read my lips ...
Embedded S-Y-S-T-E-M-S is where the big problem is. Not C-H-I-P-S.

Don't you READ anything??? Do you know what the difference is between the two?? I've posted explanations often enough.

FROM MY PREVIOUS POST TO CHEEKY

LOL - Ron Quiggins was my lunch partner at a Y2K Process Control conference in Houston March '98. Notice he used the words "embedded CHIPS" and not "embedded SYSTEMS". He's totally accurate with THAT statement.

He and I had a very interesting conversation about "embedded SYSTEMS" assessment, remediation, and testing on oil rigs. Particularly the North Sea rigs. There are numerous safety issues involved with testing and remediating while rig is operational. Best to do when a rig and pipeline are taken down. "Then you don't have to worry about safety. You only have to worry about money."

FOR THOSE THAT DON'T KNOW DIFFERENCE: A typical oil rig has approx 100-150 embedded SYSTEMS. Within these systems are approx 10,000 embedded chips.
