Did this IBM news get accelerated after the market close? Is this news already built into the current price?

Entire EU Executive Quits In Fraud Scandal
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - All 20 members of the European Union's Executive Commission resigned Tuesday after a scathing independent report into fraud and cronyism.

The unprecedented move risks plunging the 15-nation EU into political crisis just weeks after the launch of the euro single currency and days before EU leaders meet to take key decisions on reforming the bloc's finances ahead of an ambitious expansion into Eastern Europe.

''In the light of the...report, the members of the Commission have decided unanimously to resign collectively,'' Commission President Jacques Santer told a hastily arranged news conference after a crisis meeting of the EU's executive.

The hard-hitting 144-page report, compiled by an independent panel of experts in just six weeks, accused commissioners of losing control over the sprawling Brussels bureaucracy that proposes and implements EU laws.

Deputies from the 626-seat directly elected European Parliament earlier called on the Commission to resign or face being sacked.

Kemble, Service does seem to be the missing link with Dell. I have heard rumors that dell will buy ibm outright. this is crazy. but it does seem like ibm is not competing very well vs dell and I think dell will conquer them very shortly. I believe IBM has been losing some money on thier consumer pc biz for awhile now, but i don't own the stock so i don't know firsthand.

Hie Kemble:<<<<DELL needs service....and the technology of IBM will aid them for years...what really occurs is...if anything...but, I have been hearing quite a few things for a long long long time upere...(middle of IBM)...IBM people tell me that it is obvious...IBM can no longer compete against DELL in the PC market...Gerstner has long maintained that he was turning the company more and more into a service company...I have heard about the in fighting at IBM..."Deal in themaking"...etc>>>>

IBM and Dell both quality brand names, can remain side-by-side
One more of the great names associated with Dell in a loose conglomerate-Hwp-Intc,Msft,Kodak. With Dells' growth rate, and 4 hour or one day service, each area of the country must be covered so Dell
has used Eds, Uis, Wang, and probably now Ibm personel who have (had)
access to the many facilities and military installations, ready to go to work, living in the area.
But workers needed to know instantaneously the computer configuration they were dealing with and hence the Dell Web pages and
access to the (very often confidential) specific computer assembly . No more long talks on the phone to discover what in blazes was in the computer or the programs installed.( in case a hard drive needed replacement).
IMO IBM has seen the advantage of Dell's experience in on-line
configuration records. Many of the Big Blue boxes will be around for years and need service. Dell will help make that more efficient.
Survivors in the industry ( as Michael emphasizes in his
book) will be companies that work together. Thats noted today in
the Web stocks as the buy-outs and relationships accelerate.
Cmgi, Dis, Xcit, Gnet, Cnet,Aol, Yhoo,-the whole new industry is congealing and fighting for leadership rolls..
The demand for storage is becoming so great there is no need to
worry much as to who gets the jobs. But the technology there is very important, the capacity and reliability of the drives,
and again the speed and efficiency of data transfer where IBM can really help to share their R+D efforts with Dell.
Why worry about who is going to build the P/C's. First it was Apple ( who gave them away to the schools). Then IBM, and many more ( now forgotten), followed by CPQ, then Gtw, Last year it was MU planning to build 6 MM square ft plants in the US and Europe and take over the business. Then the Web TV people were on the prowl. Then Apple came back. Today its a rinky-dink outfit in Seattle.
Cheap competition should be no concern - how many people are buying those economical Kia cars for $9k today?.When more than half the auto production is trucks with many extras costing perhaps $25k.
Summary:
Yeah, I rather agree with your post, kind of got carried away here.(hehe). Lets keep the analysts speculation going Dell-IBM, IBM, IBM, Dell,Dell,IBM its good publicity for both and with good
news in the wind will help keep the stock price up.
Dell forever---------------->
