ot---NTT Docomo to use Sun's Java in cell phone service

TOKYO, March 16 (Reuters) - NTT Mobile Communications Network Inc (NTT
Docomo) said on Monday it had signed a memorandum of understanding with Sun
Microsystems Inc (Nasdaq:SUNW - news) on use of Sun software in Docomo's cellular
phone services.

Docomo said Sun's Java, Jini and Java Card software technology would be used to improve security for banking services,
downloading of game software and other applications.

The software will be used in Docomo's new ''i-Mode'' mobile computing service, which includes telephone banking, airline
reservations, stock transactions, e-mail and Internet access.

Docomo said it will launch a prototype of i-Mode cell phones using Sun's technology later this year and will also consider using
the technology on W-CDMA (wideband-code division multiple access) cell phones, which are expected to reach the market
within the next few years and will allow high-resolution video and high-speed Internet access.
