TradeStation 4.0 is not yet Y2K compliant and they are promising to have a "patch" ready by the end of June. TS is great if you're a systems trader, but I am not, and only use 5% of its capabilities, but I find that its ease of use is great; however, if you just want to trade the S&P, and you don't use trading systems and you don't want to spend too much money on a program, you can use PC Quote at pcquote.com and try it on a month to month basis. Of all the online charting services, this one is the most useful in terms of indicators that we use, and it has good line-drawing capabilities. Several people on our site use it. There are only 2 problems with PC Quote: 1. For whatever reason, the values for ADX, an indicator that I use a lot, is not smoothed right; 2. Also, there seems to be 82 5-minute bars when there should be 81. This is bothersome, but considering the cost, it is worth it as a first stop. The reason I am upgrading to TS 2000i is because when I bought TS 4, there wasn't really much competition in the market place for charting software, so I really had no choice. I trade both big and mini S&P futures online with Lind Waldock, and I use their Lind Online Direct (to the floor) and it's great. I spent my entire career using the phone and never tried online trading because I heard so many horror stories from the people at my site, but I've done it for several weeks now, and it's great. The big S&P order entry system (CUBS) was down for 1 day and the mini (GLOBEX) was down for 1/2 so far. I only use market buys and sells and I cannot believe the speed and efficiency. Our site is presently in negotiations with them to get a one-rate discounted commish for all those referred from the site. If you need more info, let me know.
