Not entirely nonsense - there are very real fears of Chinese expansionism, and they are to some extent justified. Blowing them out of proportion, though, does not bring anything closer to a solution. And looking at any such situation from an exclusively military viewpoint is not very useful.

I am familiar w/ debate on "whether the US bases...are a relic of the occupation." It is a well-worn topic. More recent is the LDP's meeting to discuss the defense/security aspects of Japan's current constitution, and the discussion within and among all parties on TMD. The concerns that have prompted these discussions are exactly as I have stated them. I can also assure you the JDF is contemplating what their alternatives and options are.
