c.s.y2k -- How can one believe ANYTHING the Gov't says???

The y2k czar stated 99% (then 95%) of FAA systems were done months back. The
head of the FAA said almost done!
Today, during house hearings, the DOT (the parent agency!!) said the FAA was
way behind and the GAO spokesman stated that the FAA has only remediated 2 of
66 mission critical systems.
Add to that you have other lies well documented by other agencies -- lie the
DOD.
These people have proven they are willing to lie no matter what the facts in
order to quash panic.
I believe the opposite will be the result. This lying will produce the panic it
is meant to stop!
If any one here wants to place blame for fostering fear, then forget about
North and the others. The blame falls at the feet of those that are attempting
to keep people from preparing, by ANY means.
*They* are the reason little was done well in advance and *they* are the reason
the fear will build because their lying makes they assurances ring hollow!

That was Joel Willemssen (or something like that). The GAO is emerging
as the pit bull of governmental Y2K. Joel and his gang have savaged
agency after agency.

Gravy-train and so-Long.

WHAT! 2/66 = 3%. Where do we get these people from?

There are some organizations that are playing it straight, doing a fine
job. You don't hear a lot about them because they are in head down,
deathmarch mode.

I fear they will burn out the programmers.

Yes, as milne has said, he has no reason to panic. He'll toss another
log on the fire, take a big bite of a hot biscuit with peach preserves.

It's a matter of degree. Something odd is about to happen. The rules of
the game are about to change and the world will be different. We
hope it will be a better place, that there will be more freedom, caring,
honesty. That things will work and civilization and government will
empower rather than surpress the human spirit.

Unfortunately, the evidence, observing the control-freaks at work and
their lying denialist lackeys does not give me the reason to believe that
the landing will be soft.

Most people hope for a better world and life. A few, the grubbing
power-crazed, corrupt scammers fear that the chaos will reveal them for
what they are. Dilbert's boss lives and he walks the earth as
Ko-Skin-em the destroyer of worlds.

Deny, deny, deny until they believe their own lies. The FAA is in fine
shape, SS will not suffer interruptions. Medicare will be there for you.
No problems here, nothing to see, move along, these are not the doids
we're looking for, move along.

The reality is that the game was over at Day 500. At that time, it was
obvious that the failures were preprogrammed.

I'm dense. SHMUEL, milne, InfoMagic and others warned me before Day
1,000. The guy who saw the date failure at Maxwell Online humorously
spoke of getting a new name, plastic surgery, and moving to Tahiti to
escape the litigation.

Several docs report that Medicare is broken *now*. That payments
typically run 6 to 9 months late. Other medical professionals say that
government paperwork to ensure the quality of care simply ensures that
there is paperwork that does nothing to provide quality care.

The best argument that Y2K will not break the system seems to be that
the systems are already broken. When I state that Y2K problems will
take down entire government agencies and corporations, the counter
argument appears to be, "yeah, so? Tell me something important."

The failures will happen and will bring unnecessary human suffering.

At this point, I don't see the way out.
