PC DOCS/Fulcrum solidifies leading position in manufacturing vertical
PC DOCS/Fulcrum Acquires Technology And Personnel From ExoVision Technologies, Inc.
TORONTO, March 16 /CNW/ - PC DOCS/Fulcrum, a subsidiary of PC DOCS Group International Inc. (NASDAQ:DOCS, TSE:DXX) and the global leader in document and knowledge management, today announced it has acquired the technology and key personnel of the Ottawa-based ExoVision Technologies, Inc., a leading developer of best-of-breed technical document management (TDM) solutions. This move further entrenches PC DOCS/Fulcrum as a leading player in the manufacturing and technical drawing management markets, the focus of one of six business units (along with Financial, Professional Services, Government, OEM, and ISO). ExoVision's Technical Document Management (TDM) solutions integrate DOCS Open with CAD systems to track engineering drawings as part of an enterprise solution for manufacturing clients and other CAD users. The acquisition of ExoVision's technology is consistent with PC DOCS/Fulcrum's vertical focus and its steadily growing business in the ever-expanding manufacturing market (CIMdata, Inc., a computer integrated manufacturing consulting group, reports the manufacturing and industrial marketplace continues to grow at a 30-35 percent rate for EDM and PDM technology.) According to PC DOCS/Fulcrum's second quarterly results, sales in the company's manufacturing vertical market account for almost 22 percent of overall product sales. Personnel at companies such as Kraft Foods Canada, Equistar, Chevron Chemical, Carolina Power and Light, Codelco Construction and Mining, BP Oil, and Mississippi Chemical comprise some of the 10,000 users utilizing ExoVision technology in PC DOCS/Fulcrum products. ''The acquisition of ExoVision's technology as it is embedded in PC DOCS products demonstrates our strong commitment to the technical document management arena. It is a perfect example of our move towards a more focused solutions orientation, giving us much more control and direction over our efforts in the manufacturing/engineering space,'' said Craig Wallace, president of PC DOCS/Fulcrum. ''ExoVision has always focused on providing the best TDM solutions available. Now as a division of PC DOCS/Fulcrum, the increased access to development plans and product futures will be extremely beneficial to our mutual customers,'' said Douglas Duncan, CEO of ExoVision Technologies, Inc. ExoVision's products, RocketLink and RocketReView Pro, seamlessly integrate with PC DOCS/Fulcrum' products, to provide powerful solutions designed for the process, utility, discrete, and AEC markets. CAD users are also able to take advantage of advanced document management functionality integrated with technology that tracks drawings, revisions, notations, reference files and more from a familiar interface. A powerful redlining and commenting tool additionally enables users to simultaneously display engineering drawings, scanned images, spreadsheets and specifications. ''Manufacturing companies are looking for solutions that will give them the flexibility and return on investment they need. PC DOCS/Fulcrum's experience in this sector combined with ExoVision's technology and the DOCS Open architecture, will bring users the targeted solutions that address very specific areas of 'pain' within manufacturing businesses,'' said Ed LoTurco, director of marketing for the manufacturing business unit of PC DOCS/Fulcrum. ''Time to market will also be reduced, allowing our customers to immediately take advantage of the latest and greatest features in the DOCS Open product line.'' ''Large companies have repeatedly expressed their requirement to manage CAD drawings in the same way as their other documents. PC DOCS/Fulcrum has provided a winning solution to many large customers across the globe and looks forward to further expanding and enriching it in the future,'' added LoTurco.
