In the last few months there appeared an article in the Scientific American about stock market patterns as fractals. I understand very little about fractals, but the argument seemed to be that a sampling of stock market movement over a short period would reproduce essential larger-scale features over a longer period, and vice-versa. I was just thinking that if today's pattern on the Dow were expanded over a period of two years what it might imply.
