Hi lml,

Media Gateway Control Protocol. A newish (already 3 weeks old, by God)
standard that is being proposed by Level 3 and Bellcore (now, Telcordia, www.telcordia.com) as a means to make service level differentiation possible in a packet switched environment. The goal i to raise the QoS by segregating CoS (Quality of Service and Class of Service). Thus, on a proprietary backbone like the one Level 3 is building, Voice and Video would be prioritized over less time sensitive data. To further Mike Doyle's analogizing, which is delightful (technical term), sort of like Union Pacific putting the coal train on the siding while the Amtrack blasts thru (perhaps the wrong day to use this one, oh well).

Threaders, and you know who you are, I'd like to hear some of the ins and outs of the contention betwixt the MGCP and H.323 and how the IETF and ITU are likely to come down on unification of these standards.

TIA, Ray
