Clinton backs IMF gold sales to fund
debt relief

WASHINGTON, March 16 (Reuters) - President Bill Clinton
said on Tuesday that the United States supported IMF gold sales
to help the international body fund debt relief.

''(The United States must gives its) support for gold sales by the
IMF to do its part and additional contributions by us to the World
Bank's Trust Fund to meet the cost of this initiative,'' Clinton told
a U.S.-Africa ministerial meeting in Washington at which he announced a debt relief initiative for
poor African countries
