John Kaiser, writing in the Feb. 26 issue of his Bottom-Fishing Report, says he expects Jordex Resources to be a big winner in his 1999 portfolio. Mr. Kaiser recommended Jordex, now 71 cents, at 50 cents in December 1998 and in December 1997 at 85 cents. "Whatever deal gets dropped into Jordex, I think it will be a hot one that taps into the American market mania," Mr. Kaiser writes without elaborating. The sultan of spec notes that a New York-based leveraged buyout group, Hamilton Partners LLC, was recruited to find a new business venture for cash-rich ($19.7-million) Jordex. Mr. Kaiser also notes that well-known Swiss investor Carlo Civelli joined the board and took a private placement of 500,000 shares at 60 cents. Both are important signs that Brian Hinchcliffe is about to launch Jordex onto a speculation cycle, he contends. Mr. Kaiser says his fears that Jordex will be the victim of a cash-vanishing-act-style deal disappeared when the Hamilton group and Mr. Civelli put up cash for shares.
