Faroudja Equipment Selected by Fox Owned and Operated Stations for DTV Broadcasts

SUNNYVALE, CA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 1999--

Digital Format Translator, From Faroudja's Line of Broadcast

Video Processors, Secures Integral Role in HDTV Systems

Faroudja, Inc. (Nasdaq: FDJA) today announced that a number of FOX owned and operated stations, leaders in the roll out of the new Digital Television (DTV) broadcasting technology, have selected the Faroudja Digital Format Translator(TM) (DFT) upconverter as an integral component of their HDTV systems. The FOX Television Stations, Inc. is an operating company of the FOX Entertainment Group.

Early adopters--which include FOX stations KDFW Dallas, WJBK Detroit and WXFT Philadelphia--have transmitted Faroudja DFT processed High Definition Television signals with the Faroudja DFT since their November '98 sign-ons. Continuing the group's massive DTV build-out, FOX stations KRIV Houston, WAGA Atlanta, WFLD Chicago, WFXT Boston, WNYW New York, and WTTG Washington, D.C. have also purchased DFTs.

The FOX facilities will capitalize on the DFT's superior image quality to leverage existing broadcast playback equipment and systems infrastructure to translate archived programs, promotional material, news packages and live events to formats compatible with their new Digital Television feeds.

The typical DFT configuration provides the FOX stations with a variety of input and output signal options. In addition, the DFTs provide the stations with the flexibility to fine tune Video Detail Enhancement and Noise Reduction, and to select from among all three popular Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) video formats: 480p, 720p and 1080i.

Faroudja, Inc. is a world leader in high-performance video processing technologies for markets requiring superior image quality solutions. The company provides innovative products for the HDTV broadcast, home theater, digital television and PC/TV convergence markets. Faroudja's technologies are protected by more than 50 patents. Faroudja has received numerous awards, including an Emmy award for Engineering Development and a Lifetime Achievement Emmy presented in June, 1998 to its founder, Yves Faroudja.
